ADRA Malawi distributes food relief items in Mangochi

Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) has donated food relief items to 150 households in Mtimabi area, Mangochi district. The beneficiaries are from Group Village Heads Mthiramanja and Lusewe.

Speaking during the distribution ceremony, ADRA Malawi Country Director, Pastor Dr. Dennis Matekenya said in response to the call that the Head of State pronounced state of national disaster in regards to the hunger situation in Malawi, ADRA decided to come with the donation because scarcity of food reached critical stage in the area.

He then said that as an organization, they also realize that the food relief that come to various communities meet different challenges, but as ADRA, they are encouraging those registering the beneficiaries to always practice fairness and that women should not be victimized as a result of the disaster that has happened.

He added that this is the initial response, and they are planning to have this all over for the next six months. Group village Head Mthiramanja expressed his gratitude, saying that the aid is timely as people were starving because most of the crops got dry due to inadequate rainfall. He then urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items received since they still have a long way to go.

One of the beneficiaries, Maduwani Kazembe, 65 years old said all her crops went dry and she had nothing but now she is happy that she has her own food since she was only relying on well wishers to give her daily food but now she will have enough food for some reasonable days.

The food items that the beneficiaries have received include 50kgs of maize flour, 10 kgs of beans, 5 kgs of Likuni Phala,1 kg of sugar, 1 kg of salt and 2 litres of cooking oil.
