The fight against Cholera

More resources are needed in the fight against Cholera. This was highlighted in Blantyre when ADRA Malawi with support from WaterAid, delivered chlorine and hand-washing buckets to Blantyre District Health Office (DHO) and Blantyre District Education Office.
According to Vuso Tembo, a Pharmacy Technician at Blantyre DHO, Cholera has increased the consumption of supplies that were not in huge demand in the past. “For instance, chlorine was mainly used to disinfect hospital premises before the outbreak but now we are also using it to disinfect cholera camps and households. We are thankful for the timely support”. However, we also need beds, cannulas, blankets, and tents. Added Tembo.
In her remarks, the District Education Manager for Blantyre City, Anita Kalewu, said that they are very thankful for this support as it has come at the right time. There have been cholera cases among teachers and students hence we are using chlorine to disinfect classrooms and toilets in our schools. Kalewu also pleaded for more support from well-wishers as almost all the schools have been affected since students come from all parts of the district most of which have active cholera cases.
WaterAid supported CHAM and ADRA with WASH and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) items to help in the fight against Cholera. ADRA Malawi will also distribute chlorine in Lilongwe in the coming days.
